RBB Appoints New Musical Director
We are delighted to announce that Mark James has been appointed the new Musical Director of Renfrew Burgh Band.
A trumpet player from the age of 8, Mark has performed in many competitions and won many awards, including APA Aberdeen Young Musician of the Year 2012.
Joining Bon Accord ‘B’ Band on Principal Cornet in 2012, he was awarded ‘Best Instrumentalist’ in the 4th Section and 2nd place at the Scottish Championships in his first contest with the band, which prompted a quick move for him to Bon Accord Silver Band a few months later on Soprano cornet.
Mark moved to Glasgow in late 2012 to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and a few months later joined Whitburn Band. Winning multiple Scottish Open titles, the Scottish Championships 2015, performing at two European Championships, three National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall, and most notably winning the Grand Shield 2017, Mark enjoyed a very successful period with the band. Since graduating with his Masters degree in July 2018, Mark has made a name for himself as a freelance trumpet player and conductor with various orchestras and ensembles.
He is thrilled to be joining the Renfrew Burgh Band family as Musical Director and is excited for the journey ahead with the band.
